Just got locked out of my hosts home at 12am and waited out for almost an hour. I’m super grateful to the stranger who sat outside with me looked up a hotel number, and tried to help me reach my hosts by phone, knocking on their window… And when I suggested she go to sleep she laughed and shrugged it off. This is a complete stranger I saw walk by the house on the street in the middle of the night. When I was planning on sleeping outside.
I haven’t been taking pictures in Montreal I’m realizing now. But I’ve been enjoying it nonetheless and I guess that’s most important when you travel, that you take it in. Sometimes you won’t be able to show someone else what you saw or explain how meaningful it is, how just at the right moment someone said or did something that touched your heart and moved you beyond your own circumstance and your own understanding, and it’s beautiful to be transformed like that so effortlessly, but it’s not always transferable into photography, writing, or art. You need to trust it’s taking you in the right direction and it’s part of the bigger picture of living. To be in the moment and to be transformed.
